It's still interesting to me that such biologically different species are compatible enough for healthy children, even though you explained early on how it was the science of the Taladaar. Makes a person think. :)

Those unions that resulted in genetically defective children were discouraged at least a few millennia before the story. For example, Arnamelians and Kainal are incompatible enough that their children (provided they survived) got some nasty genetic diseases. Probably that played a part in their enmity, they cannot resolve territorial disputes with a marriage.
Other pairings, like Terrans and Arnamelians, tend to result in a sterile offspring.
