Third and last batch of answers.
I don't know if Gillia's ancestors came from Naples or she just knows some local insults, I just couldn't pass the chance to make her say something colorful (to better clarify, she saw Ophelia and mistook her for Julian's new love interest :D).
Julian speaks a little Italian. Shouldn't be a surprise, since he's been dating Gillia for 3 years.
Jan doesn't dance and would decline, but I think he's still slightly disappointed that no one asked him to join.
We should also add MY SISTER to the "inspirations" list. If I've become any good is partially due to our friendly competition.

Diciamo che inserire Isolde mi ha risolto alcuni problemi, e ora il fumetto può andare nella direzione che volevo.

Gillia furiously stabbing the voodoo doll is just hilarious! :-D

Also, the name Cletus makes me think of this character!

EEEEK!
And thank you, this Q&A gave me a chance to give a personality to characters who didn't have any development in the actual comic. Hopefully they'll have their space soon.

What to name a character is interesting. Maybe Dickson was going by the original meaning, "great", or maybe he was playing against the idea that only a "hick" would have such a name.

I'm terrible at coming up for questions for things like this, but if you ever do one of these again perhaps you can explain what process, or processes, you use for naming people & things?

Sometimes I go through naming dictionaries, sometimes I look at random names & pick what looks/sounds good, twice I've asked my readers for suggestions.

Whatever Dickson's reasons, I still think that name/surname combination sounds cringeworthy. The novel is good, if you like military sci-fi.
About my method: sometimes I just like a name or think it would fit my characters (Jan, Esterina, Adrian...). Sometimes me or my sister come up with a made-up name and like how it sounds (Zadra, Helystyal). Other times we take an existing name and change it a Little (Tyelene comes from a Tye, Queen of Egypt). Art and history/mythology books are great for that.
But the best method is taking a random word - or random generated name, and scrambling the letters and tweaking until you get something interesting.
Many years ago we found this little program called NameMage, that allows you to set parameters and styles for the random names.

To be fair, if you like car, drag racing and some americans hooning about in car, he's your guy.

He's also the kind of guy that went out and bought an old oval race track and turned it into a business, complete with a small drift circuit and skid pad.

He has a youtube channel by the same name.

Late to the party, but enjoying what I've seen so far. :)

Also I'm really happy to see that one of your influences is Gordon R. Dickson, as he's probably my first or second favorite sci-fi author of all time, and probably top ten of all authors I've read. Tactics of Mistake was a great novel, as was the whole series, but when he passed and I found out that he had originally intended for the Dorsai! series to to stretch back into the past (Medieval is as far back as I can recall being mentioned), I was truly heart-broken. His stories were very...human...and I remember caring about some of his characters more than I ever had about others.

Anyhow, nice to see another good writer and artist share their love and labors here on ComicFury. My list of favorites keeps growing. :)

Thank you! I'm really happy that another Dickson fan finds my work appealing. I agree, as much as I loved other novel series (Jack Vance's Demon Princes, for example), Dickson's characters were my favorites.

I forgot you had mentioned Jack Vance when I started typing that, he's a favorite of mine as well for the exact book series you mentioned, plus the Planet of Adventure collection. He wrote what I consider "adventure sci-fi", which probably casts a wider net than I might intend if I had more authors to compare to, but in the grand scheme of things I probably haven't read too many different authors. That being said, it's so rare for me to find anyone mention Dickson so readily that it really appeals to me and, whether it is fair or not, greatly improves my opinion of them.

I've always preferred protagonists who think their way out problems, treat everyone with respect, even their enemies, and still figure out how to get things done "right" when the only options seem to be bad or worse. Character matters, but it's often a real trick to write characters convincingly, especially if your audience doesn't connect with them right away.

You said this Q&A was fun for you to do and I don't doubt it, because to me, at least, each of them got a chance to shine. When a character really does the writing for you, that's when you know you have a winner, even if no one else believes you. :)

Thank you again, your reply really made my day! For a lot of reasons I feel my characters aren't very appreciated. I'd keep drawing anyway because if I don't they'll start a riot in my brain, but comments like this one give me more reasons to keep working. :)

You are most welcome!

I think you have so many characters to manage that it's a wonder you can put so many on a page as you do. Obviously some have had more time already at this point, such as Jan and Kai, but I'm really curious to find out more about Julian and the ladies. What little I've seen of his girlfriend makes me less surprised that he joined a mercenary group, but there's got to be more to their story. I'll try to just sit back and relax while you tell your story. ;)
